Helpful Suggestions:
- While old newspapers are readily available, the ink can leave unsightly stains on items. Wrap items in pain wrapping paper first, then wrap newspaper around the items for additional protection.
- If you have saved your original boxes from stereo equipment, TVs, computers, and other small appliances, use them. Make sure that you put all the manuals, cables, and cords in the same boxes that you pack the unit. It will make reinstalling, or re-hooking up these units a lot easier.
- Tape garden tools together for easier transport
- Pack all boxes to capacity. Boxes that are under-filled are more likely to be crushed. Boxes that are overfilled can tear or fall apart
- Boxes should weigh about 25-30 lbs each. Mark heavier boxes with the word "heavy" so you know that you might need 2 people to lift it, or a dolly to move it.
- Space bags or other plastic bags that you can remove the air from are great for pillows, comforters, and heavy winter clothing.
- Mark boxes on all four sides with the rooms they came out of, and draw arrows if needed, to indicate the top of the box when items inside should stay upright. It will help identifying where they go and how they should be stacked a lot easier.
